About this Event

Please RSVP to receive email reminders with the livestream link, which registrants will receive TWO HOURS before the event. The webinar will be recorded.

This panel discussion will explore the issue of COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness. It will raise awareness about the study and surveillance of vaccine effectiveness, and takes place during the World Health Organization’s World Immunization Week, Pan-American Health Organization’s Vaccination Week in the Americas, and Canada’s National Immunization Awareness Week.

According to GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, a partnership between the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, vaccine effectiveness refers to how well a vaccine performs in the real world. Vaccine effectiveness is distinct from vaccine efficacy, which is the degree to which a vaccine prevents disease, and possible transmission, and is determined by comparing a vaccinated group with a placebo group under ideal and controlled circumstances.

How is vaccine effectiveness studied? What is the impact of real-life vaccine effectiveness studies? What vaccine effectiveness surveillance infrastructure exists in Canada? This panel will explore various approaches to researching and surveilling vaccine effectiveness.

This event, hosted by the Dalla Lana School of Public Health's Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases is an opportunity to hear from leading epidemiologists, physicians, and public health researchers and researchers, and to contribute to dialogue on this important area.
