This week's speaker series introduces the Hungry Cities Partnership and its SSHRC-funded COVID-19 and Food Security in China Project. This project analyzed the results of a pioneering household survey conducted during the lockdown in 2020 in two Chinese cities: Nanjing and Wuhan (the original epicenter of the global pandemic). There was a sharp increase in overall food insecurity, but the two cities had very different experiences and outcomes. Given that the pandemic has led to major increases in food insecurity globally, the study shows how a resilient food system was put under strain and the coping responses of the governments, communities, and citizens themselves. Join us with Drs. Zhenzhong Si and Jonathan Crush for this timely discussion on food security.
