In March 2020, faced with the overwhelming COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals and other care settings in the United States, Canada, and other countries felt it was necessary to restrict “visitors” and family members to stop the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of staff, patients, families, and communities. However, there have been serious consequences or harms of these restrictions for patients, for their families, and for health care professionals. While this initial response was understandable, it is crucial to revisit these restrictions now because we know so much more about the clinical protocols, many have been vaccinated, and personal protective equipment is available. Join this free webinar to learn about current efforts and resources in the US and Canada focused on recommitting to family presence and recognizing families as essential care partners. Learn how one health system used a structured process, involving staff, patient and family advisors, and community leaders, to recently review its family presence restrictions and to welcome families as essential care partners. Bring your questions and share your own experiences with family presence policies and practices in recent months.
