Learning Exchange: Supports for workers responding to overdoses in Ontario

To support community responses to opioid/overdose-related harms, the COMmunity Opioid/Overdose CAPacity-building (COM-CAP) project is organizing a learning exchange on supports for workers responding to overdoses in communities across Ontario.

This interactive session will include presentations and facilitated discussion on the current needs of workers experiencing grief and loss in the context of the current drug poisoning crisis, as well as practices, challenges and opportunities for supporting the health and well-being of workers. Participants will be invited to raise questions to the presenters as well as to share their own updates, challenges and approaches. Participants will have the opportunity to submit questions for the presenters during registration as well. The aim is to highlight community experiences in Ontario and to support discussion and knowledge exchange on supports for the health and wellbeing of workers responding to overdoses.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss information about the needs of workers experiencing grief and loss due to drug poisoning
  2. Describe current and future supports, challenges and opportunities to support workers responding to overdoses
  3. Identify resources for supporting workers responding to overdoses

Presenter(s): Gillian Kolla and Juno Zavitz

Gillian Kolla, PHD, is a Banting Postdoctoral Researcher at the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research, University of Victoria

Juno Zavitz is the Program Coordinator of the Grief, Loss and Wellness Initiative at Breakaway Community Services
