OMATalks: Healthy Planet, Healthy Population
Event Date: Thursday, April 21, 2022 | Event Time: 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Event Location: Zoom
Climate change is an urgent human-made crisis and doctors have seen its devastating impacts across the planet through extreme weather, crop failure and the burning of forests. Ontario is not immune. As of the end of September 2021, Ontario had experienced just under 1,200 forest fires this year, double the number in 2020 and almost 50 per cent over the 10-year average of 816.
In the OMA’s Prescription for Ontario: Doctors’ 5-Point Plan for Better Health Care, Ontario’s doctors are calling for positive action to be taken immediately on climate change to mitigate its severe consequences on human health and well-being.
CTV’s Avis Favaro will host a distinguished panel of experts on the eve of Earth Day to discuss the urgent need for the health-care sector to take action to mitigate the impact of climate change on human health and well-being.
Speakers include:
The event is open to all Ontario doctors and health-care stakeholders, all levels of government and the media. The format for the event will be a panel discussion followed by a question-and-answer session.
This panel is the latest OMATalks event, a thought leadership initiative the OMA launched in 2019 to promote discussion of key health-care issues and continue leading the way as Ontario transforms its health care. This is the OMA’s fifth OMATalks.
