City of Vancouver – Protecting Public Health Through Architectural Design: Legionella Awareness and Prevention

Legionnaires’ disease is the leading cause of waterborne illness and death in the United States. It is preventable with proper design and maintenance. This seminar will discuss Vancouver Building By-law amendments aimed to help prevent the disease, with an emphasis on decorative water features, green walls, air intakes, cooling towers, rainwater harvesting systems, and other mechanical systems. It will be of benefit to architects and building design consultants, engineers and technologists.

Speakers: Phillip White (City of Vancouver, Manager, Plumbing and Mechanical Inspections); Arne Faremo (Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, Senior Environmental Health Officer); and Christopher Radziminski (City of Vancouver, Building Policy Engineer).
