The University of Toronto’s (U of T) Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) Interdisciplinary Cluster on Implementation and Improvement Science to Support Public Health and Health Systems Improvement, University of Ottawa’s (uOttawa) School of Epidemiology and Public Health (SEPH), and the Bruyère Research Institute (Bruyère RI) Centre for Equity and Effectiveness are pleased to announce a joint webinar on implementation research (IR) in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a global framework for action for people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership. While the SDGs (which are directed at all countries) hold promise, they also call for real-world evidence to respond to and solve implementation problems facing policy-makers, practitioners and communities. This webinar is linked to the release of Seven Approaches to Investing in Implementation Research in Low and Middle-Income Countries, a new good practice document by the ESSENCE on Health Research initiative led by the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), based at the World Health Organization (WHO), which brings together over forty funding agencies from around the globe. The document arose from a recognition that, by sharing good practices, funding and research organizations can enhance the ways in which they invest in IR as well as build capacity in LMICs.

The webinar will introduce the Seven Approaches to Investing in Implementation Research in Low and Middle-Income Countries document, which will then be followed by comments from funders that focus on improving health and health systems, particularly in LMICs. These funders will reflect on how they increasingly use innovative frameworks and methodologies that underpin IR with the aim to understand and bridge the gaps between ‘knowing and doing’ through a vital collaboration between researchers, policymakers and health practitioners. The session will end with an interactive Q&A session.

The webinar is on February 11, 2021 from 12:00 pm - 13:00 pm EST
