With unprecedented public and political attention on the public health system as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a new opportunity to articulate the need for fundamental investment and retooling in public health.
The CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health is undertaking a broad national dialogue with community members on the future of Canadian public health systems to identify unified priorities and accompanying strategies to build robust and responsive public health systems fully prepared to address current challenges and future threats. Our ultimate goal is to inform the refresh of our Strategic Plan in 2022.
IPPH has developed a background paper. This paper is designed to inspire a detailed discussion on what Canadian public health systems of the future could look like.
The dialogue events are open invitation and interested participants can register here.
Each session is accessible to both English and French speakers. While the host will primarily be speaking in one language, all participants are encouraged to use their preferred official language. Bilingual IPPH Advisory Board members will be attending each session to facilitate conversations in both official languages.
Participants will be sent a reminder email 24 hours before the sessions they register for with connection information.
If you are unable to attend these events but would still like to contribute feedback, please submit a written response to the questions outlined in the background paper by emailing a maximum of 2 pages to ipph-ispp@cihr-irsc.gc.ca before June 1, 2021.
We are working closely with other public health organizations including the Canadian Public Health Association, the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health, the Network of Schools and Programs of Population Public Health, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the Urban Public Health Network to ensure these sessions benefit a range of different processes and can simultaneously inform a number of important outputs.
