Ontario has passed legislation purporting to "fix" long-term care in the province. Under recent amendments, intended to address the shortage of long-term care beds, hospital patients who are waitlisted for a long-term care home must accept a placement in a home that is not of their choosing or pay $400/day. Our panel will discuss the legal, ethical and practical dilemmas raised by legislation along with the costs and consequences for Ontarians in need of long-term care.
