CVPD & UNICEF - Routine immunization: Reaching every child, everywhere

  • Webinar

The COVID-19 pandemic severely affected routine immunizations of children. Most countries experienced drops in childhood vaccination coverage rates, erasing decades of progress. The 2022 UNICEF report showed 23 million children missed out on their routine vaccinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic—the highest number since 2009. As a result, we’re seeing outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, including measles and polio, around the globe.

After more than three years of the pandemic and ongoing efforts to restore, maintain, and improve immunization programs, what is the status of routine childhood vaccinations? Has progress been made? What are the current gaps and how can we improve equity and access to these lifesaving vaccinations?

Join us on April 20 for a first look at UNICEF’s latest findings on immunizations, and a discussion about the current status of routine immunization coverage in Canada. Co-hosted by the University of Toronto’s Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases and UNICEF Canada in the lead up to World Immunization Week 2023, this webinar will provide a platform to share lessons learned during the pandemic, pressing issues, and best practices on the road to recovery.
