Intersectoral Collaboration: Coming to the Table

  • 18 May 2023

  • Webinar

Once again, Health Promotion Ontario is hosting its free annual webinar series. This year the theme is Health Promotion in a New Era: Skills we need for a changing world.

If the past three years have taught us anything, it’s that we constantly need to innovate, adapt and overcome. In the years ahead, we will continue to face complex problems that require new approaches and upstream thinking. That’s why we’re focusing this series on key skills you’ll need now and into the future, to tackle the big issues ahead.

This year, we’re doing things a little differently. This session will feature panelist presentations and discussions, but our panelists will reflect both traditional and non-traditional “health promoters”. We want everyone to see themselves as health promoters and to reflect on the ways in which they can contribute to advancing health and wellness.

Join us for a discussion on Intersectoral Collaboration with speakers Jessica Austin, Laura Crandall, Natasha Beaudin, and Dr. John Puxty.

Jessica Austin, is a Health Promoter with Southwestern Public Health that has been working in substance prevention for 15 years. She’s inspired by sociological theories and psychology to develop behaviour change strategies and engagement with populations of highest risk. She has been exploring the Icelandic model for years in relation to it’s adaptability to the Canadian political and cultural context.

Laura Crandall, Health Promoter with Southwestern Public Health. I started working in Public Health twelve years ago; over the years, I've developed a passion for collaborating with partners to build healthy community spaces through comprehensive policy work. In my spare time, my family and I enjoy spending time outdoors, camping all over Ontario.

Natasha Beaudin has worked in the Community Health Centre sector for almost 20 years, most recently as a health promoter at Centretown Community Health Centre in Ottawa. She has worked in food security, smoking cessation, stress reduction and physical activity, as well as leading the social prescribing project for her centre. She chaired the Health Promotion Network of Eastern Ontario (HPNEO) for the past few years. She is currently the lead on social prescribing at the Alliance for Healthier Communities.

Dr. John Puxty is a Geriatrician, Associate Professor and Chair of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at Queen’s University, and Director of the Centre for Studies in Aging and Health and Southeastern Ontario Regional Geriatric Program. He has a primary interest in promoting healthy aging and wellness for older adults through his ongoing research in aging, age-friendly communities, memory disorders, and knowledge mobilization strategies.
