Climate change stands as one of the defining public health challenges of the 21st century. In an effort to understand local vulnerabilities and health risks under a climate-adjusted future, Region of Waterloo Public Health conducted a Climate Change and Health Vulnerability Assessment to help inform planning with the goal of reducing climate-related health risks and their impacts on vulnerable populations. In this webinar, we will explore the relationship between climate change and infectious diseases, highlighting how climate change influences transmission and prevalence, using examples like West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease. Moreover, we will introduce our infectious disease surveillance tool, demonstrating its role in timely local data collection, trend detection, and adaptability to emerging health threats. This presentation highlights the importance of addressing climate change's impact on public health and sets the stage for our next steps in this area.
