Meet our Panelists:
Dr. Ilona Kickbusch, Director DTH Lab, co-chair World Health Summit Council
Professor Ilona Kickbusch is the Director of the Digital Transformations for Health LAB at the University of Geneva and co-chair of the Council of the World Health Summit. She is a member of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board, the WHO Council on the Economic of Health for All, Founder and Chair of the Global Health Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. She chaired the international advisory board for the development of the German global health strategy and advised on the establishment of the WHO Hub on Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence. She publishes widely and serves on many other commissions and boards. She initiated the @wgh300 list of women leaders in global health. Professor Kickbusch has had a distinguished career with the World Health Organization. She was key instigator of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion and WHOs Healthy Cities Network. She has also received many prizes and recognitions.
Dr. Jocalyn Clark, International Editor, The BMJ, Adjunct professor of medicine, University of Toronto, Honorary associate professor, Institute for Global Health, UCL
Dr Jocalyn Clark is an award-winning public health scientist and journalist, and one of the world’s most experienced medical journal editors. Her editorial leadership has helped globalise and diversify the top medical journals, reshaping the research and commentary literature to be more inclusive of global health content, women, and experts from low and middle income countries.
Jocalyn is an advisor to Global Health 50/50 and WomenLift Health, Chair of the governance council of the CMAJ, and co-founder of advocacy groups Canadian Women in Global Health and WGH Canada. In 2023 Jocalyn was appointed to Royal Society of Canada expert panel on Canada’s role in global health. Jocalyn holds a BSc in biochemistry & microbiology, and MSc and PhD in public health sciences (with gender studies). She is an adjunct professor of medicine at the University of Toronto and honorary associate professor at the Institute for Global Health at University College London.
Jessica Ferne, Director, Global Health Impact at CanWaCH.
Jessica Ferne (she/her) currently serves as Director, Global Health Impact, with CanWaCH (Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health). In this role, Jessica leads CanWaCH’s strategic efforts to strengthen Canadian monitoring and evaluation processes, capacity, and collaborations, in order to drive evidence-driven programming and decision-making, with the ultimate aim of improving the health and lives of women, children, and youth.
Prior to CanWaCH, Jessica served as Director of Programs for a Canadian-based humanitarian organisation, where she led an extensive global portfolio of emergency response and development programs. Jessica holds a Master of Public Health degree from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (University of Toronto), as well as a Bachelor degree in Philosophy (University of Ottawa). She has completed post-graduate certificates in Advanced International Project Management (University of Toronto), International Policy Analysis & Strategic Planning (Carleton University), and Humanitarian Response (Harvard University).
