PHO Webinar: CATCH My Breath: Results from an Ontario Pilot Study

This presentation provides a brief overview of the school-based vaping prevention curriculum, “CATCH My Breath” (CMB). Results from the pilot study will be shared, focusing on the feasibility of implementing the curriculum in an Ontario high school context, youth and presenter perceptions of the appeal, appropriateness and comprehensiveness of the curriculum, as well as impact on knowledge, perceptions of norms, and intentions to vape in the short-term. Recommendations and next steps will be presented based on the findings from this pilot.

Intended audience: Public Health Unit Staff, Educators, School Administration, School Board Staff

Presenter(s): Dr. Adam Cole

Dr. Adam Cole, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Ontario Tech University. He has expertise in youth substance use, including the use of tobacco products and vapes. His current research program identifies patterns and risk factors for youth risk behaviours, supports schools in addressing youth risk behaviours, and evaluates community-and provincial-level policies targeting substance use. He is currently the Tobacco Research Lead for the COMPASS study, the only study of its kind that provides longitudinal data for multiple health behaviours and evaluates changes to school programs, policies and the built environment in five Canadian provinces.
